Description:
UTC Broadband Seminar: How Virginia’s Investor-Owned Utilities are Solving the Digital Divide

Utilities empower broadband deployment in numerous ways. And with closing the Digital Divide a top priority, federal and state policymakers are looking to electric utilities as key partners in bringing fast and competitively priced broadband across the country.

In this special UTC webinar, we will do a deep dive into how investor-owned utilities in Virginia are responding to this challenge. Complying with a 2019 state law, Virginia’s two largest IOUs—Appalachian Power and Dominion Energy—have entered into unique partnerships with smaller firms to bring broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved locations. In this 1.5-hour exclusive webinar, we will hear from a member of Congress and executives at both utilities about their projects. Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) will kick off the webinar with a discussion on the need for rural broadband projects and why utilities are key to broadband expansion. Rep. Griffith will be followed by Appalachian Power Vice President of External Affairs Brad Hall and DOMINION REP will discuss how their utilities have responded to the Virginia legislation, give status reports on their projects, challenges they’ve faced, and how they are moving ahead. If your utility or state is determining whether and how it can aid in the push to solve the rural broadband problem, you will not want to miss this webinar!

Now more than ever, broadband is an essential service. Find out how utilities are more than just partners in this effort.
