Description:As the energy industry continues to move from a centralized to decentralized grid, utilities that pursue and capitalize on digital transformation at the grid edge can expect to see both short and long-term benefits: larger consumer pools, a more lucrative and sustainable business model, and flexible IT infrastructures able to quickly react and meet changing consumer demands. However, rebuilding infrastructures to facilitate grid edge technologies is easier said than done- so how do utilities get there from where
they are today? Too often, networks are implemented and evolved to meet the latest and most critical demands, rather than being designed from the ground up and with the final solution in mind. A complete lifecycle approach is needed to ensure that the network is optimized to meet the needs of current and future applications. This requires a carefully organized effort incorporating planning, assessment, architecture, design, implementation and optimization activities.
This session will be a technical discussion on just how edge intelligence-ready today’s grid devices, equipment and telecom technologies are, the impact on traditional utility roles and responsibilities, the importance of telecommunications master planning, and how to get the most out of current and upcoming pilot programs. Attendees will take away insight into key first steps towards a connected grid.
