Description:In October 2020, the FCC will award up to $16 billion through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund Phase I Auction to provide 10 years of ongoing Universal Service Fund support for voice and broadband services in unserved areas. To award these funds, the FCC will use a reverse-auction similar to the successful CAF-II auction that awarded $1.5 billion in 2018. In CAF-II, a significant number of electricity providers won funding to deploy state-of-the art broadband networks in their service areas.
The Rural Digital Opportunity Fund is a top priority for the FCC and the auction in October will be the FCC’s single largest step towards closing the rural digital divide.
