The UTC Fiber Subcommittee is a forum where existing and future fiber optic systems are analyzed for member utility use. Topics include fiber leasing, fiber life cycle, equipment and services.
 
In 2017, UTC members commissioned the Fiber Subcommittee to perform an Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) cable survey, to learn how significantly age contributes to OPGW failure rates. This report examines attributes of utilities’ OPGW deployments, to understand the causes of failure and recommend mitigating activities.
